Privacy policy

The short version: your alarms, plans and wake-up voice run on your phone. We only store data on our server if you create an account to connect an AI assistant. We don’t show ads and we don’t sell your data.

Who we are

“Why Not You” (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is an Android alarm clock app. This policy explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have. It applies to the app and to this website, getwhynotyou.com. If you have questions, email support@getwhynotyou.com.

What stays on your phone

You can use the app without an account. In that case, everything below is processed and stored only on your device:

  • Alarms. The times, repeat days and settings of your alarms.
  • Plans. The line you type in the evening Planning reminder (“What’s the plan for tomorrow?”) and the plan that is read to you when you wake up.
  • Voice. The spoken wake-up plan is generated on your phone using on-device Kokoro voices. Your plan text is not sent to a server to create the audio, and this works offline.
  • Calendar (Pro). If you turn on calendar read-out, the app reads today’s events through Android’s calendar provider so it can include them in your wake-up plan. Calendar events stay on your phone unless you connect an AI assistant (see below).

If you uninstall the app, Android deletes this on-device data. Some Android backup settings may include app data in your own Google device backup; that backup is controlled by your Google account settings, not by us.

Permissions we ask for

Each permission is used only for the feature named next to it. You can turn any of them off in Android settings; the related feature will stop working, but the rest of the app will keep working.

  • Alarms, notifications and full-screen alerts — to ring your alarm on time, show the Planning reminder and show the wake-up screen.
  • Calendar (read only, Pro) — to read today’s events aloud. We don’t change your calendar.
  • Display over other apps — so the alarm can take over the screen when it rings, even while you’re in another app. The app doesn’t read what’s on your screen.
  • Internet — only for optional features: signing in, connecting an AI assistant, and Google Play billing.

Accounts and AI assistants

Creating an account is optional. You need one only to connect your own AI assistant (for example Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok or Le Chat) through our MCP connector. You sign in with Google sign-in.

When you connect an assistant, it can read and change your alarms, their messages and follow-up questions, and your plans on your behalf, and read (with Pro calendar turned on) your calendar events so it can plan your day. That information passes through our server to the assistant you connected. The AI provider then handles it under its own privacy policy and terms, which we don’t control. Please review them before connecting. You can disconnect an assistant at any time.

What we store on our server

Only if you create an account and connect an AI assistant, we store:

  • Account email (and, if you use Google sign-in, the basic account identifier Google provides).
  • Alarms and plans, so your assistant can read and change them and the changes reach your phone.
  • Follow-up answers (for example, “Are they crisp? → No, 9:01 pm”), so your assistant can see what happened and follow up.
  • A push token for your phone, so changes from your assistant arrive in seconds. It identifies the app install, not you.
  • A log of what the AI changed (for example, “set alarm 6:30 weekdays”), so you can see changes made on your behalf.

We use this data only to run the features you asked for. We don’t use it for advertising or profiling, and we don’t use it to train AI models.

Payments

Pro purchases and subscriptions are handled by Google Play. We never see or store your card or payment details. Google tells the app whether you have an active purchase so Pro can be unlocked. Google’s handling of payment data is covered by Google’s privacy policy.

Sharing, ads and selling

  • We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising.
  • The app shows no ads.
  • We share data only: with the AI assistant you connect, as described above; with service providers who host our server for us, under contracts that limit them to doing that; and if required by law.

Retention

On-device data stays on your phone until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Server data is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your server data within 30 days, except where we’re legally required to keep something for longer. Backups that contain deleted data are overwritten on a rolling basis.

Deleting your data

In the app: open Settings → Delete account. This deletes your account and everything we store on our server for it.

By email: write to support@getwhynotyou.com from the email address on your account with the subject “Delete my account”. We’ll confirm when it’s done.

To remove on-device data, clear the app’s data in Android settings or uninstall the app. Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription — cancel that in the Play Store.

Security

Data sent between the app, our server and your AI assistant is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access to server data is limited to what’s needed to run and support the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we store to a minimum so there’s less to protect.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from them. If you think a child has created an account, email us and we’ll delete it.

Your choices and rights

You can use the app without an account, turn off any permission, disconnect your AI assistant, and delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or to object to how it’s used. Email support@getwhynotyou.com and we’ll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

This website

This site has no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which processes basic request data (like IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google to fetch them. If you email us, we use your email only to reply and, if you asked to join the beta, to add you as a tester on Google Play.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we’ll also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
